Professor Nurmohamed is Professor Emeritus of Rheumatology at the Amsterdam UMC and is a Consultant Rheumatologist at the Amsterdam Rheumatology & Immunology Center at Reade and Amsterdam UMC, the Netherlands. His long-standing research focuses on:
- Cardiovascular disease in inflammatory rheumatic diseases;
- Cardiovascular risk management in rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, axial spondyloarthritis and gout;
- Inflammation-driven atherosclerosis and cardiometabolic comorbidity;
- Preventive cardiology within rheumatology practice; and
- Clinical trials and translational research in inflammatory arthritis.
Professor Nurmohamed has played a central role in shaping European recommendations, serving as Chair of the EULAR Quality of Care Study Group on cardiovascular involvement in inflammatory arthritis and Convenor for EULAR Task Forces on cardiovascular risk management in inflammatory rheumatic diseases. In addition, he contributes to national regulatory and ethical oversight as a Board Member of the Dutch Medicines Evaluation Board (CBG) and (Vice-)Chair of the Medical Ethics Review Board (MERB) at Amsterdam UMC.
Continuing impact after emeritaat
Following his emeritaat in November 2025, Professor Nurmohamed remains actively engaged in international collaborations, research, mentoring, epidemiology and advisory roles; all grounded in his commitment to advancing multidisciplinary education and improving outcomes for patients with inflammatory arthritis.
